Rural/Metro expanding workforce in Syracuse

SYRACUSE  —  Rural/Metro Medical Services is adding 14 new medical-billing positions in Syracuse to support operations in Florida.

The hiring will swell the ambulance company’s Central New York staffing to more than 300 employees. Its Syracuse Zone Billing Center — one of four Rural/Metro regional centers in the country — is in line to grow to nearly 50 people.

Although they will handle Florida billing, the new jobs will be located at Rural/Metro Medical Services of Central New York’s headquarters at 488 W. Onondaga St. The ambulance company added 2,000 square feet there to make room for the hiring. It had been leasing 26,000 square feet from property owner Martin Yenawine.

Rural/Metro plans to fill the new position with Syracuse–area candidates.

“We are very excited to bring more jobs into the local economy,” Rural/Metro Division General Manager Michael Addario said in a news release. “It is a testament to the caliber of talent in Central New York, and we are excited to be able to tap into that talent and offer jobs here on the Near Westside.”

The ambulance company, part of Scottsdale, Ariz.–based Rural/Metro Corp., operates within a six-county area in Central New York. It responds to 60,000 calls in the region annually.
