Rural/Metro upgrades technology in Syracuse

SYRACUSE  —  Rural/Metro Medical Services of Central New York has spent nearly $300,000 to bolster its computer hardware, software, and technology.

The ambulance service, which serves a six-county region, purchased over 40 pieces of computer hardware. The hardware included computers crews will use to document patient care in the field.

Rural/Metro also invested in software-platform updates for a paperless patient-care reporting system, improved computer-aided dispatch systems, and upgraded vehicle-locator systems. And it moved to an upgraded virtual-server environment to provide stability during disaster recovery.

“These new enhancements will help us be more efficient, environmentally wiser, and ultimately better able to interface with other technologies, including the county 911 system,” Division General Manager Mike Addario said in a news release.

Rural/Metro Medical Services of Central New York employs nearly 300 people and responds to more than 60,000 calls annually. It is based in Syracuse and is a part of Scottsdale, Ariz.–based Rural/Metro Corp.
