SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Sam’s Club is closing its store on Erie Boulevard East in Syracuse later this month.

In a legally required Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN Notice) sent to the City of Syracuse, Sam’s Club said 151 employees had been employed at the store at 2649 Erie Blvd. E.

“The Club will close to the public on January 26, 2018. All hourly employees at this facility will be terminated effective April 13, 2018. All management employees at the facility will be terminated on May 11, 2018,” the notice stated.

“We expect the employment separations to be permanent,” it added. All workers were notified of the closure by Federal Express overnight or certified mail on Thursday, the company said.

The store closing in Syracuse is one of 63 reported across the U.S. on Thursday. USA Today reported that 10 to 12 of the stores would be closed and converted to regional distribution centers. The WARN notice filed with the mayor’s office in Syracuse and CNY Works mentioned nothing about converting the local membership warehouse.

The notice said all employees who are losing their jobs can apply for open positions at other Sam’s Clubs of Walmart stores.
