SBA in Syracuse launches 2012 e200 program

SYRACUSE — The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) kicked off its second consecutive Syracuse Emerging Leaders initiative (e200) this morning.

The SBA is now recruiting small business owners to take part in the 2012 program in Syracuse, which aims to help established small businesses grow. The program runs from April through November and exposes participants to about 100 hours of training.

“We want you to grow your dream,” U.S. Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle (R-Onondaga) said during a press conference today at the Syracuse Technology Garden. “We want you to grow that dream into something bigger and better.”

Small businesses that are at least three years old are eligible to apply for the e200 program. A business must also have annual revenue between $400,000 and $10 million to be considered.

The program is free to participants, but only 17 spots are available. SBA’s Syracuse district office will select participants by April 1.

This year’s e200 is about the same size as last year’s program, which was the first the SBA operated in Syracuse. Last year, the program started with 18 participants, although five business leaders did not finish.

Area business owners who want to take part in e200 must submit letters of interest to the SBA’s Syracuse district office by March 15. The program starts with a four-hour class on April 24.

Anyone interested in more information about e200 can visit the SBA’s website at www.sba.gov/e200.
