SBA, partners to host Oct. 11 government-contracting event at SUNY Poly in Marcy

MARCY, N.Y. — Minority and women entrepreneurs have the chance to learn how to sell their products and services to various levels of government.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and partners are hosting the “Opening Doors to Government Contracting” conference on Oct. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Student Center in Marcy.

The conference costs $10 per person, and includes a continental breakfast, the SBA said in a news release.

“Opening Doors to Government Contracting” will provide information, resources, and “practical” advice on how to conduct business with federal, state, and local agencies, the SBA said.

Procurement-resource specialists will present specific government-procurement programs and certifications for minority and women entrepreneurs in the “We Can Help” panel presentation.

Participants will also be able to attend workshops that will cover federal contracting and certifications, along with state certifications and marketing to state agencies.

In addition, three business owners who have become “successful” government contractors will participate in the “How We Did It” panel presentation.

They include John Piseck of CTM Corp. in Frankfort; Colleen Maxwell, accounting and management consultant at Nature’s Footprints, LLC in Newport in Herkimer County; and Linda Rockwood, owner of Mohawk Valley GIS in Utica.

The event concludes with a speed-networking session for attendees to connect with procurement representatives from large companies and federal, state and local agencies looking for local small-businesses suppliers.

The conference is presented by the SBA Syracuse district office; the Business Training Institute, Inc. of Utica; the Mohawk Valley Small Business Development Center (SBDC) procurement-assistance center; North Country Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) in Watertown; Utica SCORE; and the Women’s Business Center of New York State, the SBA said.
