SBA Syracuse announces participants for 2014 Emerging Leaders initiative

SYRACUSE — The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) on Thursday announced a list of participants selected for the 2014 Emerging Leaders initiative for Syracuse–area small businesses.

The participants include:
Sherry DePerno, president and CEO of Advanced Tool Inc. in Marcy; Herbert Dwyer, CEO of ASI Energy in Ithaca; Dan Walding, CEO of Bentley-Hall, Inc., of Syracuse; Theresa Himes, owner of Bosco & Geers Food Market LTD in Oswego; Marny Nesher, owner and president of the Business Journal News Network in Syracuse; Andrew Kettell, president of C.M.E. Corp. of Syracuse; Matt Godard, owner of Café Kubal of Syracuse; Jessica Cosentino, owner of Cosentino’s Florist of Auburn; Mathew Barber, managing partner of Highpoint Advisors, LLC of E. Syracuse; Shawn Ferguson, president of Indian Springs Manufacturing Co. of Lysander; Sara Morris, co-owner of Mello Velo Bicycle Shop, Inc. of Syracuse; Christopher Resig, vice president of N.K. BHANDARI, Architecture & Engineering, P.C. of Syracuse; Tim Shaughnessy, president and CEO of Rapid Cure Technologies, Inc. of Syracuse; Ken Hills, co-owner of Sophistications Jazz Café & Lounge of Syracuse; Sally Fedrizzi, owner of Vagabond Tour and Travel of Syracuse.

The program started April 22. John Liddy, entrepreneur in residence at Syracuse University, conducted the first class and the instructionwill continue through November, according to the SBA.

Participants will work with mentors and develop connections with other business owners and community leaders over a period of seven months and 13 training classes.

Upon graduation, participants will have developed a “strategic” growth plan for their business using the knowledge, skills, and techniques involved in the class, the SBA contends.

Partners pledging support for the initiative this year include CenterState CEO; CNY Technology Development Organization, Inc; the city of Syracuse Office of Neighborhood and Business Development; the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc.; Manufacturers Association of Central New York; the Onondaga Small Business Development Center; the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry; Syracuse SCORE; Syracuse University (SU); The Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship, which is part of SU’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management; the Syracuse Tech Garden; and the WISE Women’s Business Center, the SBA said.
