Schedule set for Jazz in the City, a series of concerts with a public-health focus

SYRACUSE, N.Y. The 20th season of Jazz in the City, a series of summer concerts with a focus on public health, begins in mid-June and includes six events scheduled periodically through mid-August.

All concerts are held on Thursday evenings between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The series is a partnership between Syracuse Community Health (SCH) and CNY Jazzthat is scheduled in Syracuses urban neighborhoods. The neighborhoods are ones that the organizations say, continue to face publichealth challenges.

The concerts are designed to provide equity and access to family health services using the arts as a mobile platform, according to a Wednesday announcement.

Dubbed a Healthcare Village, a group of health and humanservice agencies participate in the event to offer help to concert goers. They include SCH medical professions, providing access to mobile testing, screening, counseling, personal physicians, incentivized with NYS Lottery scratch-offs.

In addition, other agencies, volunteer health efforts, advocacy groups, minority crafts,and ethnicfood vendors also take part.

This year, the group also includes the LeadSafe CNY Coalition, which will provide face-to-face education and awareness information to children and families. Kinney Drugsalso comes aboard to emphasize their vaccination services, and On Point for College joins to provide counseling on making college, training, and careers possible.

This partnership provides a platform for our community to access vital health information with a focus on eliminating health disparities, while enjoying local vendors and community talent, Dr. Ofrona Reid, CEO of Syracuse Community Health, said in the announcement. Through collaboration with CNY Jazz and other community-based organizations, we highlight the importance of preventative care and screenings to promote positive health outcomes. By increasing awareness and expanding health education, we together, can achieve health equity and enhance the quality of care in Onondaga County.

July 11 at Syracuse Community Health: Double Bass Experience with C-Jack Run Showcase
July 18 at Schiller Park: AAPI Jazz Collective with Adanfo Ensemble
Aug. 8 at Dunk & Bright: The BlackLites with 1Accord Line Dance
Aug. 15 at Thornden Park: Art Sherrod Jr. and Lin Rountree with 1Accord Line Dance
