Schuyler Hospital formally opens convenient care and primary care center

MONTOUR FALLS, N.Y. — Officials at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls and parent Cayuga Health on Monday held a virtual ribbon cutting announcing the opening of the new convenient care and primary care center at the hospital.

The project represents the final component of “Phase II Transformation” capital-improvement project in which Schuyler Hospital spent nearly $11 million on improvements.

Schuyler Hospital is part of Ithaca–based Cayuga Health, which also includes Cayuga Medical Center.

The second phase included the complete renovation of the former medical-surgical unit into a 9,185-square-foot center that represented a 58 percent expansion at the facility. It has telehealth capability and will offer “improved care coordination,” Cayuga Health said.

The new space also increases patient capacity so doctors can see an additional 50 to 60 patients per day. As part of this renovation, the organization now has the capacity to add additional providers in the future.

The primary care center was previously located above the hospital, per the release.

The new convenient care center will offer treatment of non-emergency services, including minor injuries, sports/camp/work physicals, mild illness, along with web check-ins and same day access for lab and most imaging services. It replaces the previous walk-in service, and appointments are not required.

Schuyler Hospital opened the first phase of its capital project — a 15,000-square-foot medical-surgical inpatient unit — on April 21, 2020. The hospital used a $10.3 million New York State Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program (SHCFTP) grant that was awarded in July 2017 to help fund the project.
