Security Mutual Life Insurance names new CFO

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Mary C. Ward has been promoted to senior VP, chief financial officer at Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York.

In her new role, Ward assumes expanded responsibilities related to the financial operations of the insurance company, including strategic initiatives, expense management, and relationships with rating agencies and regulatory bodies. Ward continues to oversee the Security Mutual’s fiscal functions. She serves as co-chair of the enterprise risk management committee and as a member of the diversity, equity, and inclusion; asset liability management; product management; talent management and benefits; home office pension plan investment; profit sharing investment; and security compliance committees.

Ward joined Security Mutual Life in 2008 as director of financial reporting before advancing to assistant VP, budget and cost accounting; second VP of financial operations; VP of financial operations; and senior VP, chief accounting officer.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Bonaventure University. Ward is a trustee of the Security Mutual Life Foundation and a past member of the Binghamton University School of Management advisory board and the USH foundation, and past treasurer and secretary for the Discovery Center of the Southern Tier board.

Founded in 1886, Security Mutual Life Insurance is licensed in all 50 states along with the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Binghamton–based company offers life insurance, other types of protection such as annuities, and financial planning.
