Senators: FAA awards Hancock Airport $248K for infrastructure projects

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded Syracuse Hancock International Airport funding that totals more than $248,000 for two infrastructure projects.

The FAA is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

U.S. Senators Charles Schumer (D–N.Y.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D–N.Y.) announced the funding in a news release that Schumer’s office issued on Monday.

The federal funding award allocates $220,500 for improvements to airport terminals and facility improvements to meet American with Disabilities Act standards. It also includes an additional $27,900 to reconfigure airport taxiways to “enhance safety” on airport runways, the lawmakers said.

The funding is part of the airport-improvement program (AIP) that the FAA administers, the lawmakers said.

The AIP provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS).

Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust fund, which user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources supports, according to the news release.
