Sensis system in place at airport in Alberta

DeWITT — NAV CANADA, the air navigation service provider in Canada, has deployed a Saab Sensis technology for monitoring aircraft at Springbank, Alberta.

The system will provide coverage in an area ranging from 100 feet to 1,000 above ground level at the airport in Springbank. It will give air traffic controllers coverage not available with existing radar, according to Sensis.

The system, known as Wide Area Multilateration, uses multiple sensors to triangulate aircraft positions based on transponder signals, according to the company. The technology is in place at almost 100 sites around the world.
