September fundraiser to support Say Yes to Education endowment

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A fundraiser to support the Say Yes to Education foundation endowment, which provides scholarships for students of the Syracuse City School District, is set for next month.

The fundraiser will take place on Sept. 5 at the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse.

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney, and Sharon Contreras, superintendent of the Syracuse City School District, today announced that they will be sponsoring the event.

Tickets for the “Champions Reception,” scheduled between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. that evening, are $500 per person. Tickets for the “Community Reception,” which continue between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. are $100 per person.

Patrons are also invited to sponsor a Say Yes scholar to attend the event for $100. Free parking will be available in the Trolley Lot behind the Museum of Science and Technology in Armory Square, according to Miner’s office.

Officials have seen over 2,000 students enroll in college who might not otherwise have had the opportunity to do so, Miner said in a news release.

“Fundamentally, Say Yes works and I am proud to have made Syracuse the first Say Yes City in America. With the support of the community we can continue [its] mission,” said Miner.

Those interested in attending the fundraiser can contact the Central New York Community Foundation at (315) 422-9538 to make reservations, according to Miner’s office.

The website sayyesbenefitevent.eventbrite.com is also an option for reservations.

The Central New York Community Foundation manages the Say Yes to Education Endowment Fund.

“Growing the Say Yes Scholarship Endowment will sustain the scholarship incentive for generations to come,” Peter Dunn, executive director of the Central New York Community Foundation, said in the news release.
