Silicon Valley firm donates laptops for needy SUNY Poly students

MARCY, N.Y. — SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) will distribute additional laptops to students in need of certain computer programs and technologies for remote study.

Applied Materials, Inc. — a Santa Clara, California–based research partner of SUNY Poly — provided the donation, SUNY Poly said.

“On behalf of the entire SUNY Poly community, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to Applied Materials for supporting our students by ensuring that technology is not a barrier to achieving important educational goals,” Grace Wang, interim president of SUNY Poly, said in a statement. “SUNY Poly is ready to accommodate any student who needs a laptop for coursework…”

SUNY Poly has loaned laptops to students after surveying students in March regarding special needs for equipment. The additional laptops from Applied Materials will be on hand for students who may need one as remote instruction continues throughout the SUNY system and at other universities across the state and nation, SUNY Poly said.
