Singh is named medical director of Cayuga Heart Institute

ITHACA — Amit K. Singh, M.D., a long-time cardiologist in Tompkins County, has been named to the top post of medical director of the Cayuga Heart Institute, according to a Cayuga Medical Center news release.

Singh joined the Cayuga Medical Center medical staff and Ithaca Cardiology Associates (now Ithaca Cardiology of CMA) in 2003. With specialized training in cardiac catheterization, nuclear cardiology, and transesophageal echocardiography, he enhanced the team of invasive cardiologists at Cayuga Medical Center performing cardiac catheterization, the release stated.

He worked closely with Dr. Drew Koch, medical director of the Cayuga Medical Center Emergency Department, to develop the Cayuga Medical Center STEMI team, a rapid-response team focused on immediate assessment and treatment of patients with heart attacks. This was a key step in establishing the hospital’s current ability to perform percutaneous coronary interventional services at the Cayuga Heart Institute, now making it a leading cardiac center in Central New York, the release asserts.

“I am honored to assume this position and look forward to building on our well-established cardiac program to become one of the best cardiac-care centers in the whole nation. Heart disease remains one of the biggest global health concerns including in our lovely Ithaca community and surrounding regions. My vision is to see the Cayuga Heart Institute deliver state-of-the-art cardiac care and treatment to the Ithaca community and beyond, while maintaining a personalized comfortable experience for all of our patients, second to none,” Singh said in the release.

A graduate with a doctorate in medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, Singh went on to his residency in internal medicine from Bassett Health Care, Cooperstown; a fellowship in cardiovascular disease from Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester; and is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and nuclear cardiology.
