Sitrin awarded $100K grant from Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — The Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center was recently awarded a $100,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc., as startup funding for its new Neurodegenerative Disease Specialty Program.

This past spring, Sitrin was approved by the New York State Department of Health to be the first and only facility in upstate New York to provide long-term care services for individuals with ALS and Huntington’s Disease.

“We are extremely grateful to the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc., for this generous grant,” Christa Serafin, Sitrin president and CEO, said in a news release. “The Community Foundation has invested in many worthwhile programs and expansions at Sitrin, and it was an honor to have its support once again.”

Sitrin’s Neurodegenerative Disease Specialty Program, expected to open in February 2016, will be available to local residents, as well as individuals residing between Albany and Buffalo.

Sitrin says 40 new full-time jobs will be created as a result of this expansion.

Once the program becomes operational, Sitrin’s vision is to implement outpatient programs for persons with ALS and Huntington’s Disease, including support services for family members and caregivers.
