ONONDAGA, N.Y. — Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists (SOS) plans to close its Onondaga Hill location in March 2019.

The office operates at 5000 W. Seneca Turnpike in Onondaga.

“It is a decision that was not made lightly but one that we believe is the best for SOS as a whole moving forward,” Nicole Chidsey, business development & community relations supervisor at SOS, tells BJNN.

SOS included word of the future office closure in an email response to a BJNN inquiry about future operations at that location following the upcoming relocation of SOS Plus.

The company moved the Onondaga Hill location of SOS Plus to its office at 8324 Oswego Road (Route 57) in the town of Clay on June 1, SOS said in a news release.

“We are glad to relocate SOS Plus to the larger SOS facility in Liverpool,” Michael Humphrey, CEO of SOS, said in the news release. “Since opening the location in Liverpool and consolidating services there, we’re able to provide patients with more convenient options.”

SOS in 2017 opened its office on Route 57 in Clay to house orthopedic offices and SOS Orthopedic & Sports Therapy offices.

SOS Plus, which focuses on after-hours care, also has a location at 5719 Widewaters Parkway in DeWitt. It will continue operations in that clinic, Chidsey says.

About SOS Plus

SOS Plus is a walk-in, orthopedic service which treats patients of all ages with acute orthopedic conditions requiring immediate attention, “but are not life threatening.”

SOS Plus is “dedicated exclusively” to the treatment of non-emergency orthopedic injuries, such as closed fractures, sprains, sports injuries or recently painful, swollen joints.

It is staffed by certified physician assistants and nurse practitioners who specialize in orthopedic injuries and work with SOS board certified physicians who are available for necessary consultations.

In 2017, SOS medical staff worked with nearly 6,000 visitors at SOS Plus locations, the company said.

SOS has more than 25 physicians, and employs about 600 additional staff. Its corporate headquarters are in DeWitt, and it has seven locations serving area patients, including, Camillus, DeWitt, Fayetteville, Clay, North Syracuse and Onondaga Hill.
