SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) has announced plans to start seasonal, nonstop service from Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) to Tampa, Florida (TPA) in the spring.
The world’s largest low-cost carrier will launch this weekly, Saturday-only service on April 30, 2022, the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) said.
The Southwest service to Tampa will increase the Syracuse airport’s existing nonstop service to the Tampa area.
“We are of course thrilled to see Southwest Airlines increase their footprint here at SYR,” said SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri. “This seasonal service will provide our leisure and business travelers increased options to quickly — and affordably — make the trip from SYR directly to Tampa in a matter of a few hours.”
Southwest on Nov. 14 began its service to the Syracuse airport with a plane of passengers that arrived from Baltimore.
Based in Dallas, the low-cost carrier began year-round and daily nonstop service from Syracuse to Baltimore and later that week, launched additional nonstop service to Orlando, Florida.
