SRC forms new subsidiary, adjusts leadership in company division

CICERO, N.Y. — SRC, Inc. has announced the formation of Gryphon Sensors, LLC, a for-profit venture and wholly owned subsidiary, to develop sensors and systems for the “safe integration of unmanned-aircraft systems [UAS] into the civilian airspace.”

Unmanned-aircraft systems are also known as drones.

The Cicero–based SRC made the announcement in a news release distributed on Wednesday.

SRC is the former Syracuse Research Corp.

The new subsidiary will leverage engineering concepts to develop radar, perform digital signal processing, and to receive and exploit radio-frequency signals, SRC said in the news release.

“Developing a sensor to allow safe operation of UAS within the commercial airspace will be a game-changer,” Paul Tremont, president of SRC, said in the news release. ”Businesses and organizations from around the globe have a need to utilize these versatile aircraft, and Gryphon Sensors will make that possible.”

SRC has named Anthony Albanese (top photo) president of Gryphon Sensors. Albanese moves from his previous position as executive vice president of SRC’s defense and environmental solutions (DES) division.

His experience in the defense and air-traffic control industries, including radar-system engineering, program management, domestic and international-business development, and operations and manufacturing management make Albanese a “natural fit” to lead the new subsidiary, according to the SRC news release.

Albanese’s new role has also generated changes in the leadership of the DES business.

The firm has appointed Matt Tryniski (middle photo) as vice president of that division. Tryniski, who has worked for SRC for 32 years in various positions, replaces Albanese in that role, the company said.

At the same time, Andrea Masten (bottom photo) will now serve as assistant vice president (AVP) of program for DES, a role that Tryniski previously held.

In his new role as vice president of DES, Tryniski will be responsible for the management, technical leadership, and all aspects of the DES division.

They include program performance, developing new opportunities, enhancing existing business relationships, establishing strategic goals and objectives, developing contractor alliances, and ensuring customer satisfaction, the organization said.

In her new role as AVP, Masten will monitor DES program operations and be responsible for the financial aspects of the business, including budgeting, planning and forecasting, according to the company news release.

SRC, Inc. is a nonprofit research and development company that focuses on areas that include in defense, environment, and intelligence.

SRCTec, another for-profit subsidiary, offers manufacturing and lifecycle support for complex electronics systems, the company said.
