CICERO — Nonprofit research and development corporation SRC, Inc. will cut 35 jobs this week as a result of delays and reductions in government contracts.
The job cuts are not connected to any specific program and are also meant to reduce overall costs to keep the company competitive, says Lisa Mondello, a spokeswoman for SRC. The cuts will hit technical and support positions, she adds.
Most of the affected employees are in the Syracuse area, but a handful of them are in other SRC offices. No job cuts are planned at SRC’s for-profit manufacturing subsidiary, SRCTec, and no further reductions are planned for SRC, Mondello says. SRCTec cut 28 jobs last June.
SRC and SRCTec together employ about 1,100 people at 15 locations in Colorado, Maine, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia. The firms are headquartered in Cicero and also have an office in Rome.
They work mainly on defense-related projects.
