SYRACUSE, N.Y. — St. Joseph’s Health on Tuesday suspended 122 employees who didn’t comply with the state mandate to get a COVID-19 vaccination.
Those affected received their suspension letters Tuesday and have until Oct. 8 to get the vaccine, or they’ll be fired, according to Dr. Philip Falcone, chief medical officer at St. Joseph’s Health.
Falcone also noted that 97 percent of St. Joseph’s 3,810 employees are vaccinated. If those suspended get their vaccination, “they are eligible for rehire and we would welcome them back,” he said.

In the meantime, St. Joseph’s is examining all its options, including pausing services, consolidating all operating rooms, and adjusting elective surgeries as it deals with the staffing shortage, Falcone said.
