UTICA, N.Y. — Reimagine St. Luke’s will hold a community workshop to review the concept plan for the reuse of the former St. Luke’s Healthcare campus on Oct. 30 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) Center for Rehabilitation and Continuing Care Services, 1650 Champlin Ave., Utica.

The hospital closed a year ago when MVHS opened the new Wynn Hospital in downtown Utica. While St. Luke’s Home continues to operate, the rest of the 53-acre campus has been the focus of a redevelopment and reuse initiative led by Oneida County, MVHS, Mohawk Valley EDGE, and the town of New Hartford.

They hired Fu Wilmers Design to lead a team of consultants who, along with an advisory group made of community members, have held a number of public workshops to solicit input.

More than 50 people attended the most recent meeting in June, which focused on neighborhood design ideas. Possible concepts emerging from that meeting included adding a pedestrian bridge or crosswalk to Utica University, pedestrian crossing to the Utica Business Park, retail development near the entrance across from Utica University, wetland walking trails, an urgent-care clinic, a community center, a daycare, recreation facilities, and various housing options.
