ITHACA, N.Y. — New York will hold a public auction in Ithaca for state-owned land soon to be vacated by the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT).

The eight-acre property is located at 683 Third St. on Cayuga Lake Inlet in Ithaca. The event is set for Sept. 15, the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.

Originally announced in May 2018, the move of the DOT maintenance facility from the waterfront to a new, 15-acre location adjacent to the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport will “enhance” agency operations and open up “prime” waterfront property for development in Ithaca.

The sale of the property also “complements” the recently completed $34.8 million expansion and modernization of Ithaca Tompkins International Airport. The improvement work included a larger terminal with new passenger terminal gates and boarding bridges. It also included “enhanced” security measures, all designed to ease travel and promote economic growth for the Southern Tier, Cuomo’s office said.

Complete details on the property, including photos, legal and reference documents, and auction requirements, can be found online at ogs.ny.gov/nysstore on the real estate auctions page, Cuomo’s office said.
