State approves $2 million loan to improve Auburn wastewater-treatment plant

AUBURN — The board of directors of the New York State Environmental Facilities Corp. (EFC) on Thursday approved a three-year, $2.1 million loan for upgrades on the wastewater-treatment facility in the city of Auburn.

Auburn will use the loan to upgrade equipment at the plant.

The planned improvements include upgrades to the belt-dewatering press equipment; replacement of variable-frequency drives, asphalt shingle and rubber-roof replacement; improvements to the ultra-violet disinfection equipment; and system-wide pump, hydraulic, and valve replacements, according to the EFC.

The interest-free loan will save ratepayers money compared to the cost of Auburn borrowing on its own, Matthew Driscoll, president and CEO of EFC, said in a news release.

EFC describes itself as the arm of state government that provides low-cost financing for local governments to improve their drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.
