The New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) has elected Utica–area dentist Dr. John Liang as its next president.
Liang is slated to serve as the association’s president through June 2015, NYSDA said in a news release.
The Albany–based New York State Dental Association is one of the largest state chapters of the American Dental Association and represents more than 13,000 of the state’s dentists, according to its website.
Liang has been a member of NYSDA for 29 years, the association said.
Liang, a New Hartford resident, also served as president of the Fifth District Dental Society in 2002.
The Fifth District includes 700 members and encompasses Onondaga, Oneida, Oswego, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison and St. Lawrence counties, according to the NYSDA.
Liang has also been a member of the Oneida-Herkimer County Dental Society since 1985.
Liang graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1980, the NYSDA said.
His dental career began that same year with the U.S. Air Force. Liang entered private practice in 1985, having served the Utica community for 28 years, the NYSDA said.
Besides his practice work, Liang has also served as an attending dentist at the State University of New York at Canton’s dental-hygiene program since 2006.
Liang has also been an attending dentist for the dental-residency program at Faxton-St.Luke’s Hospital since 2008.
