State Fair to hold job fair Friday and Saturday for positions at this year’s event

GEDDES, N.Y. — The New York State Fair will hold a two-day job fair for short-term positions related to the Fair’s operations.

The job fair is set for Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Martha Eddy Room of the Art & Home Center at the Fairgrounds, per a news release.

Available positions include general labor, maintenance, restrooms, parking attendants, cashiers, and safety staff.

Interviews may take place at the event for those who bring two forms of unexpired identification. A list of acceptable documents is available here.

Veterans must bring their DD-214 form and applicants under age 18 must bring valid working papers. Positions for those under 18 are limited to parking attendants. An online job-application form can be found at https://nysfair.ny.gov/about/employment.

“The Fair becomes one of the state’s largest cities for 13 days and it takes hundreds of people to make our city work. Many people come back to these jobs year after year because they enjoy being part of one of America’s greatest state fairs,” Troy Waffner, director of the New York State Fair, said.

Most jobs last 13 days, though a few begin before the first day of the State Fair. People unable to work all 13 days of the Fair will find more limited employment opportunities. Work hours, rates of pay, and duration vary by assignment.

Applications may be subject to a background investigation or criminal history check, the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, which operates the State Fair, said.

People seeking work at food or merchandise stands must contact those vendors directly. The Fair does not employ vendors or concessionaires.

This year’s State Fair begins Aug. 21 and continues through Sept. 2.
