MANLIUS — The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is allocating $3.3 million to replace the North Burdick Street bridge over the Old Erie Canal in the town of Manlius.

New York State Sen. John DeFrancisco (R–Syracuse) announced the funding on Friday in a news release.

The project would replace the bridge that’s located at the intersection of North Burdick Street and Cedar Bay Road, according to DeFrancisco’s office.

The NY Works state highway and bridge-project acceleration program is funding the project, DeFrancisco said.

The NY Works program is a construction initiative designed to reduce the backlog of deficient roads and bridges while creating “thousands of construction jobs,” according to the NYSDOT website.

NY Works is providing $1.2 billion for work to improve more than 2,000 lane miles of roads and rehabilitate more than 100 bridges across the state. The projects started in the summer of 2012, the NYSDOT’s website says.

NY Works focuses on “improving the condition of bridges from fair condition to good condition in order to extend their service life,” according to the governor’s office.

The governor’s office included the description in a May 7 news release about other bridge projects in Central New York.
