State to host local small business workshops

Representatives from state agencies will travel around New York this spring and summer to conduct workshops on starting and sustaining small businesses.

The workshops, which will focus on state rules and programs that are designed to help small businesses, will be held in coordination with local chambers of commerce. Employees from at least six state agencies will attend each one.

Those state agencies are the Department of State, Department of Labor, Empire State Development, State Liquor Authority, Workers’ Compensation Board, and Department of Taxation and Finance.

“This program is all about creating jobs, because when small businesses do well, New York does well,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a news release. “It [is] so important for us to get out of the office and go into communities to see how we can help anyone who wants to start, grow, or improve a business, and that’s what this program will do.”

The Mohawk Valley hosts the first workshop at 6:30 p.m. on April 3. That workshop will be held at the Utica State Office Building at 207 Genesee St. in Utica.

The North Country’s workshop will take place at 8:30 a.m. on May 17 at Jefferson-Lewis-Hamilton-Herkimer-Oneida BOCES at 20104 State Route 3 in Watertown.

The Southern Tier will have its workshop at 8:30 a.m. on May 18 at Broome County Community College at 907 Upper Front St., north of Binghamton.
