State trooper arrested for merchandise switcheroo at Watertown Walmart store

SACKETS HARBOR, N.Y. — The New York State Police announced they have charged a trooper with one count of falsifying business records, a felony, and one count of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, following a Sept. 12 incident at an area store.

State Police say that while he was off duty Errol Oskay, 36, from Sackets Harbor, purchased a child’s riding toy at a Walmart in Watertown on Monday and returned the item the next day. Walmart’s asset-protection team then notified police after discovering the box contained an older, much-weathered model of the riding toy inside.

Oskay is currently suspended from his State Police job while an internal investigation continues, according to a State Police news release. He was issued a ticket to appear in Watertown Court on Oct. 3.
