Store manager arrested for grand larceny and falsely reporting robbery

WILLIAMSTOWN, N.Y. — New York State Police in Pulaski announced they have arrested the manager of a Family Dollar store in Williamstown for stealing cash and falsely reporting a robbery.

Kathryn E. Smith, age 33 from Hannibal, was charged with 3rd degree grand larceny, a felony, and falsely reporting an incident in the 3rd degree, a misdemeanor.

On Dec. 7 at 10:24 p.m., State Police responded to the Family Dollar store on State Route 13 in Williamstown, for a reported robbery in progress. Investigators interviewed Smith, the store manager, who reported that while she was getting into her vehicle, an unknown male had displayed a knife and demanded cash. She reported the man took the $3,000 in cash and ran off behind the building, according to the State Police.
