Students, technologists sought for engineering group’s annual event

WHITESBORO, N.Y. — The Mohawk Valley Engineers’ Executive Council (MVEEC) will be holding its’ 44th annual Students Introduction to Engineering and Science event March 22 and is looking for students and technologists interested in taking part.

The event is open to students in grades seven through 11 who are interested in studying math- and science-related subjects and in learning how to apply those topics in a business or laboratory.

The program will begin at Harts Hill Inn in Whitesboro at 11:15 a.m. with a buffet lunch and short presentation. Following lunch, students will go with a host from a local technology company to visit the business, tour the facility and learn about a technical career by shadowing a technologist for the afternoon.

Ralph Kohler, principal engineer at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate in Rome, will provide the keynote, “Your Future as a Commercial Drone Pilot.” The presentation is scheduled to include a live demonstration of a drone flight.

The event is sponsored by the Mohawk Valley section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Erie Canal chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, the Griffiss Institute, and supported by Mohawk Valley Community College’s Science and Technology Entry Program office.

Joseph says representatives from technology companies interested in attending and hosting a student for the afternoon, can also contact him. He adds that the MVEEC has a broad definition for technology companies.

In its history, the event has introduced more than 4,200 students from more than 40 schools to technology businesses in the Mohawk Valley area.
