SYRACUSE — Syracuse University (SU) on Wednesday announced that Thomas Wolfe, dean of student affairs, will leave the university this summer to become president of the Iliff School of Theology in Denver.
Wolfe begins his new duties on Aug. 1. He has served as SU’s senior vice president and dean of the school’s division of student affairs since 2008, the university said in a news release.
Wolfe’s tenure at Syracuse University spans more than two decades, including his original role as the Interdenominational Protestant chaplain. In 1999, the school appointed Wolfe as the fifth dean of Hendricks Chapel.

SU’s board of trustees then approved his appointment as senior vice president and dean of student affairs in October 2008, the school said.
“From his stewardship of Hendricks Chapel to his leadership of the division of student affairs, he not only has made a difference in countless individual lives with his sage guidance, but he has led students, faculty and staff through thick and thin with characteristic wisdom and earnestness,” Nancy Cantor, chancellor and president of Syracuse University, said in the news release.
Wolfe is also a trustee of the Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church and a member of the university senate of the United Methodist Church since 2008, the school said.
Wolfe is currently serving as president of the organization’s university senate through 2016.
Founded in 1892, Iliff is a graduate-theological school related to the United Methodist Church, according to the SU news release.
The school’s campus is adjacent to the University of Denver. The two institutions in 1981 created a joint program leading to the doctorate of philosophy in religious and theological studies.
