SU Education School formally opens new meeting space

SYRACUSE — Syracuse Universty’s School of Education has formally opened the Sharon Haines Jacquet Education Commons, a new event and meeting space located on the ground floor of Huntington Hall.

Named for Syracuse University (SU) trustee and School of Education Board of Visitors member Sharon Haines Jacquet, a 1972 SU graduate, the commons was dedicated at a ceremony on May 9.

Huntington Hall is the administrative home for the School of Education, which also occupies laboratory, instructional, and office space in a dozen other buildings on campus. The Sharon Haines Jacquet Education Commons provides the first fully accessible and technologically capable space for School of Education events, lectures, and receptions, and is equipped for daily use such as student collaboration and study, according to an article from Syracuse University News.

Huntington Hall, located on the corner of Marshall Street and University Avenue, is one of the oldest buildings in the university area.

The new renovation re-opens and expands the historic Marshall Street entrance to Huntington Hall, according to the article. The new main entrance leads into the Sharon Haines Jacquet Education Commons, a space for faculty, students, staff, and alumni to gather.

The architect on the project was Jonathan Lott, assistant professor at the SU School of Architecture and principal of PARA-Project, PC, a New York City–based firm.
