SU, LinkedIn partner in career development effort for students, alumni

SYRACUSE — A new partnership between Syracuse University (SU) and LinkedIn aims to build greater connections among alumni, career services teams, and students.

The partnership, through LinkedIn’s College Pilot Program, will allow SU to reach alumni registered with LinkedIn and increase participation in the school’s official alumni network on the site, according to the university.

The program will provide the SU community on LinkedIn with a more extensive, connected way to engage with each other, Kate Brodock, executive director of digital and social media at SU, said in a news release. It will allow students and alumni to identify industries, geographies, and specific employers with strong alumni representations.

“Networking is a critical part of career development, whether you are a recent graduate or seasoned professional,” Tracy Barash, SU Alumni Board member and vice president of brand development for Turner Broadcasting’s Cartoon Network, said in the release. “Syracuse University has a fantastic network and all alumni should take full advantage of the connections their degrees afford them.”

LinkedIn (NYSE: LNKD) is using the pilot program to better understand the needs of students and alumni as they build their careers, according to SU. Students are the fastest growing demographic on the site.

LinkedIn, an online professional network, has more than 175 million members, 20 million of whom are current students and recent graduates.

Other universities participating in the pilot program include Michigan State University, the University of Rochester, the University of Michigan, the University of California San Diego, Hult International Business School, and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
