Sunoco says a Dunkin’ Donuts is coming to former Syracuse gas-station site

SYRACUSE — Sunoco, Inc. on Tuesday announced plans for a new Dunkin’ Donuts franchise on the lot of two former gas station sites at the intersection of Brighton Avenue and East Seneca Turnpike in Syracuse.

That word is part of a joint news release between the company, Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, and U.S. Senator Charles Schumer.

The plan requires a final approval from Dunkin’ Donuts, the news release said.

The announcement followed a meeting between Miner and Blake Heinemann, vice president of retail operations for Sunoco and his top staff to discuss the redevelopment of that property.

Senator Schumer on June 17 visited Syracuse and asked Sunoco to initiate a redevelopment plan for the two sites it acquired in 2010. Schumer also called on Sunoco to work with the city of Syracuse to address all city-code violations on the vacant sites, the news release said.

Since June, “the site has successfully been maintained and a local property manager has been hired,” according to Sunoco and the two lawmakers.

Philadelphia–based Sunoco acquired the site and other locations in a December 2010 transaction, Heinemann said in the news release.

“At the time of the transaction, the site was closed and has remained closed since the purchase. The site was actively marketed and went under contract in June 2013,” Heinemann said.

Sunoco is part of the Energy Transfer Partners, L.P. (NYSE: ETP) family of companies, according to the Sunoco website.

Energy Transfer Partners owns and operates a “diversified” portfolio of energy assets, the website says.
