SUNY BEST April 3 event discusses small businesses and federal-government contracting

BINGHAMTON — The SUNY Business and Education Cooperative of the Southern Tier (SUNY BEST) will host an event on April 3 offering small-business owners information on how to tap federal-government contracting opportunities.

The presentation, entitled “Small business resources and federal government contracting,takes place at 10 a.m. in room 220 of the Binghamton University Downtown Center, at 67 Washington St.  This event is free and open to the public, according to a Binghamton University news release.

Howard Garrity, an economic-development specialist at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Elmira branch office, Syracuse District, will provide details for potential and existing small-business entrepreneurs on how to start and expand successful business ventures through the SBA’s loan guaranty programs, according to the Binghamton University release.

The discussion will detail the variety of services the SBA provides, including free counseling available from the SBA’s extensive network of resource partners at SCORE, Small Business Development Centers and Women’s Business Centers located across upstate New York.

Jim Quackenbush, the business-opportunity specialist for the 8(a) Business Development program and other SBA contracting programs at the SBA Syracuse District Office, will also examine federal-government contracting opportunities and how federal contracting can help small businesses grow, the news release stated.
