SUNY ESF’s Mahoney to co-chair new SUNY Sustainability Advisory Council

ALBANY, N.Y. — Joanie Mahoney, president of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF), will co-chair the new SUNY Sustainability Advisory Council.

SUNY Oneonta President Alberto J.F. Cardelle will also serve as a co-chair of the council.

The advisory council seeks to “accelerate SUNY’s leadership on sustainability and climate action,” SUNY Chancellor John King, Jr. said in Friday’s announcement.

The group will focus on ways to reduce SUNY’s environmental footprint. promote green workforce-development programs. spur research and innovation on advanced climate issues. and encourage other applied learning methods.

Besides Mahoney and Cardelle, Stanley Litow and Keith Landa, members of the SUNY board of trustees, will serve as advisory council members. Isabel Valentín, a student at SUNY ESF, will serve as the first student representative.

Additional advisory council and workgroup members will include campus presidents, campus sustainability and energy leaders, faculty, students, and other stakeholders. Carter Strickland, SUNY’s chief sustainability officer and executive director of climate action, will support the advisory council’s organization.
