SUNY Morrisville hires first dean for new School of Liberal Arts, Sciences & Society

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — SUNY Morrisville has named Aníbal Torres Bernal as the first dean of its new School of Liberal Arts, Sciences & Society, effective Wednesday.

It’s one of two new schools within the college formed after “reorganizing and restructuring programs previously distributed across four schools,” SUNY Morrisville said in a Wednesday news release.

Most recently, Torres served as associate dean of the division of counseling and family therapy at Regis University in Colorado. Prior to that, he was mental-health program director at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus.

Torres has “extensive experience” in higher education, the majority of which has been in applied education, the school said.

Throughout his career, Torres has held academic, administrative and clinical appointments at Syracuse University; the University of Nevada Las Vegas; Fairfield University; Indiana University; and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

His academic career includes serving in leadership positions in academic administration; advancement; budget and fiscal management; clinical administration and supervision; curriculum and programmatic development; diversity and inclusion; enrollment management; faculty affairs; and strategic management, per the release.
