SUNY names new presidents for Jefferson and Tompkins Cortland Community Colleges

Jefferson Community College (JCC) in Watertown and Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) in Dryden will have new presidents for the 2017-18 academic year.

The SUNY board of directors has appointed Ty Stone as the sixth president of JCC, SUNY said in a recent news release.

Stone begins her duties July 1 at an annual salary of $175,000, SUNY said. Carole McCoy, the current JCC president, plans to retire at the end of the academic year.

SUNY also appointed Orinthia Montague as the fourth president of TC3.

Montague begins July 5 at TC3 with an annual salary of $170,000, SUNY said. She replaces Carl Haynes, who will retire on Aug. 31. The July appointment allows for a transition before Haynes retires, according to TC3.

The SUNY board of trustees made the appointments during its meeting held May 3 in Garden City in Nassau County on Long Island.

In that role, Stone works to advance the college’s master plan; establish public/private partnerships; and deliver “immediate” results in several areas, including enrollment management. Stone has held senior executive level positions at Sinclair for the past eight years, SUNY said.

Stone previously served as an assistant professor and project director at Central State University in Ohio. Additionally, Stone is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where she served as an air-traffic controller.
