SUNY Oswego names new dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

OSWEGO — Adrienne McCormick, Ph.D. will become dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at SUNY Oswego on July 11, the state university announced.

McCormick has served SUNY Fredonia as interim associate provost for curriculum, assessment, and academic support since last fall. A longtime professor of English at Fredonia, she received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Faculty Service in 2012.

“I have a deep commitment to the importance of public education in the liberal arts and sciences,” McCormick said in a news release issued by SUNY Oswego.

At Fredonia, McCormick also chaired the English department for five years and was director of the women’s studies program for the half-decade before that.

She joined Fredonia’s English faculty as an assistant professor in 1998 after receiving her doctorate in English literature and a graduate certificate in women’s studies from the University of Maryland, according to the release.

McCormick completed her master’s degree with a creative thesis in poetry at the University of Tennessee and earned her bachelor’s degree in English literature and dramatic arts and sciences from Queens College.

McCormick is the author of book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals on contemporary women poets, filmmakers, and dramatists.
