UTICA, N.Y. — SUNY Polytechnic Institute now offers a master’s degree program in data science and analytics (MS DSA) that provides students with the knowledge and skills needed in many professions that deal with complex data.

Students in the program will learn the latest technologies and tools for analyzing large and complex data sets, preparing them for careers including data analysts, data engineers, machine-learning engineers, database administrators, applications architects, statisticians, and professionals in risk management and market research, the university said in a release.

“SUNY Poly is excited to announce this new flexible, interdisciplinary degree program with courses offered on campus and online depending on your specialization interests,” William Thistleton, associate professor of mathematics and program coordinator, said. “The program faculty are outstanding scholars and teachers with expertise in several areas of application to prepare students for a variety of professions dealing with complex data, in particular professions that relate to the ethical collection, exploration, and preparation of multi-modal data, the design of analytics models to extract knowledge from data, and the effective communication of data analysis results to decision-making constituencies.”

Depending on interest, the 33-credit-hour program can be completed 100 percent online. The program required 18 credits of required core classes, 12 credits of electives, and a three-credit capstone experience such as an internship, project, or thesis. Classes may be completed on campus or, in some cases, online.

SUNY Poly will accept applications for the fall 2023 semester of the program until July 1 and for the spring 2024 semester until Dec. 1. The university offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in technology, professional studies, and arts and sciences on its Marcy campus, as well as nanoscience, nanoengineering, and nanobioscience at its Albany campus.
