SUNY Poly College of Engineering to offer master’s degree program in systems engineering

MARCY, N.Y. — SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) in Marcy announced it is now offering a master’s degree in systems engineering,

The New York State Education Department and the State University of New York “recently approved” the graduate-degree program, the school said in a news release issued Monday.

The 30-credit degree program is designed for graduates with “already-existing technical capabilities” and an “appreciation of engineering across multiple disciplines,” SUNY Poly said.

It will provide students with “enhanced theoretical and application-oriented skills,” the school added.

Systems engineering develops a “critical discipline” that is in “high demand” in the industry, the university contends.

Program graduates will be prepared for careers with job titles such as chief engineer, system engineer, project engineer, and program manager, SUNY Poly said.

The addition of the master’s program in systems engineering will “strengthen the competitiveness” of high-technology industries in the Mohawk Valley region and throughout New York, the school contends.

Local companies that currently employ systems engineers include Rome Lab, the information directorate of the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL); Rome–based Assured Information Security, Inc.; the Rome office of Rockville, Maryland–based Intelligent Automation Inc.; the Endicott location of Arlington, Virginia–based BAE Systems; the Rome location of McLean, Virginia–based Booz Allen Hamilton, and Cicero–based Syracuse Research Corp., SUNY Poly said.
