Syracuse area gains 2,700 jobs in last year, other CNY areas mixed

That’s according to the latest monthly employment report that the New York State Department of Labor issued on Thursday.

The job gains for the Syracuse area in the past year represent an increase of 0.8 percent.

The Ithaca area added 200 jobs, an increase of 0.3 percent, in the same period.

The Watertown–Fort Drum area also added 100 jobs between April 2016 and this past April, an increase of 0.2 percent.

The Utica–Rome metro area lost 500 jobs, a drop of 0.4 percent, in that period.

The Binghamton area also lost 400 jobs, a decline of 0.4 percent, in the past 12 months.

New York state as a whole gained nearly 77,000 jobs, an increase of 0.8 percent, in the past year. The state economy gained 5,600 jobs, a rise of 0.1 percent, between March and April, the labor department said.
