Syracuse basketball game against Georgetown set for Dec. 8

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse basketball on Tuesday announced it will next face its former Big East rival, the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Carrier Dome.

The 2018-2019 season will be the fourth straight in which the Orange and Georgetown will play. Syracuse won last year’s contest in Washington D.C., 86-79, in overtime. The Hoyas took the previous two games.

A game time for this year’s Orange-Hoyas game won’t be known until Syracuse’s ACC schedule is announced, which is usually about late August, according to a Syracuse basketball spokesman.

Syracuse holds a 50-43 advantage in the all-time series and Georgetown is the sixth most-frequent opponent in Cuse basketball history.

Georgetown is coming off a 15-15 season, the first under head coach Patrick Ewing, a star player at the school in the 1980s. His team returns senior center Jessie Govan, who led the Hoyas in scoring (17.9 points per game) and rebounds (10 a game) last season.

Syracuse was 23-14 and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last season. The Orange returns all five players who were starting at the end of last year as well as quality depth beyond that. Jim Boeheim, who ranks second in career wins among Division I coaches, heads into his 43rd season as Syracuse head coach.
