Syracuse basketball point guard Frank Howard suffers injury

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Returning starting point guard Frank Howard has sustained an injury to his leg, Syracuse basketball announced late Friday morning.

“Senior guard Frank Howard has suffered a lower left leg injury. He is expected to miss practice time but return before the first game,” Orange head coach Jim Boeheim said in a statement.

Syracuse will tip off its regular season on Nov. 6 vs. Eastern Washington at the Carrier Dome. Before that, the Orange have a pair of exhibition games at home on Oct. 25 (St. Rose) and Oct. 31 (Le Moyne).

Syracuse basketball said when more information is known about the injury, it will provide it.

Howard averaged 14.4 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game in the 2017-18 season. He made 67 three pointers, while shooting 33 percent from beyond the arc.
