Syracuse basketball to face Iowa in Big 10/ACC Challenge on Dec. 3

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse University men’s basketball team will host the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2019 Big 10/ACC Challenge on Dec. 3 in the Carrier Dome, the universities and conferences announced Thursday.

The Orange have posted a 3-3 record in six Big 10/ACC Challenge appearances, starting in 2013, when they joined the ACC. Syracuse has put up back-to-back victories against Maryland (72-70) and at Ohio State (72-62) in the challenge in the last two seasons. The Cuse is 2-1 in Carrier Dome matchups in the event, with wins over Indiana and Maryland, but a loss to Wisconsin.

Iowa is 6-12 in 18 appearances in the Big 10/ACC Challenge, which started in 1999. The Hawkeyes are 1-7 in road games in the challenge.

Iowa went 23-12 in the 2018-19 basketball season, making the NCAA Tournament as a 10 seed and advancing to the 2nd Round.

Syracuse posted a 20-14 record last year, advancing to the NCAA Tournament as an 8 seed but losing in the 1st Round.

Syracuse and Iowa have met three times on the hardwood, with the Hawkeyes holding a 2-1 lead in the series. The Orange, however, did win the last meeting in 2014 in New York City.
