Syracuse business owner accused of failing to pay sales taxes

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The owner of Rob’s Cycle Supply Inc. of Syracuse is accused of failing to pay more than $37,000 in sales taxes to the state.

Robert Woodward, 43, of 4510 Quamby Rd. in Clay appeared in court on July 6 to face arraignment on the charges, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance said in a news release issued Monday.

Woodward is charged with three felony counts of criminal tax fraud in the third degree, grand larceny in the third degree, criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, the department said.

Woodward is owner of Rob’s Cycle Supply at 613 Wolf St. in Syracuse. 

He is accused of collecting $37,323 in sales tax from customers between March 2012 and August 2013 but failing to forward those funds to the state Department of Taxation and Finance as required by law, according to the department’s news release.

The department’s criminal-investigations division investigated the case. The Onondaga County District Attorney’s office will prosecute the case, the department said.
