Syracuse Chiefs to open a holiday kiosk at Destiny USA

SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Chiefs today plan to open a holiday kiosk at Destiny USA that it will use to sell its merchandise and season-ticket packages.

The minor-league baseball announced its plans in a news release on Thursday, saying the kiosk is part of the organization’s “ongoing commitment to building and maintaining strong community relationships.”

The Chiefs will operate the kiosk in Destiny USA’s Canyon area near Cantina Laredo and The Melting Pot, the team said.

The partnership followed an “informal” meeting between Jason Smorol, the team’s general manager, and executives at Destiny USA, the team said.

The Syracuse Chiefs are working to “get out and listen” to the community, Smorol said in the news release. “For Destiny USA to look at the Chiefs and initiate the desire to partner with us tells us we are going in the right direction with our vision,” he said.

Since Smorol began his duties at NBT Bank Stadium in early October, the baseball team has announced a new plan for season-ticket and individual-ticket pricing.

The Chiefs on Nov. 13 also announced a partnership with Cumulus Media and The Score 1260 (WSKO-AM) to broadcast its games in 2014.

It’s an important offseason for the Chiefs to build toward the 2014 season, as the club on Nov. 19 announced a nearly $1 million net loss in 2013.
