SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Chiefs will take the field as the “Devices” for the game on Thursday, May 31 against the Toledo Mud Hens at NBT Bank Stadium.

The “Devices” name is a tribute to the Brannock device, which was invented in Syracuse, the Syracuse Chiefs announced Thursday.

“Salute to the Brannock Device Night” is a part of the Chiefs’ “Season of CNY,” the team said.

Charles F. Brannock invented the Brannock Device and started the Brannock Device Company in the 1920s. The Brannock Device Company is located at 116 Luther Ave. in Liverpool, according to the company’s website.

Similar to the Salt Potatoes promotion last season, the Chiefs will play as the “Devices” for one night.

The “Devices” will wear specialty on-field jerseys during the game on May 31. Jerseys will be auctioned off to raise money for Operation Walk during and after the game.

The players will also wear specialty “Devices” baseball caps on the field that night. “Devices” caps and t-shirts will be available for sale in the Whistlestop Souvenir Store and online at syracusechiefs.milbstore.com.

“Devices” t-shirts and adjustable caps are on sale now, the team said. Fitted on-field caps will go on sale May 31.
