SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Crunch minor-league hockey team announced Tuesday that it has hired Lukas Favale as its new radio broadcaster.

Favale, 25, joins the Crunch, the AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, full time after interning with the team from 2012 to 2014. He most recently served as the director of broadcasting and media relations for the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL during the 2016-17 season before being hired as the director of broadcasting/account executive by the Adirondack Thunder ECHL hockey club.

“I am thrilled to be returning to a city and an organization that have made major impacts on me both personally and professionally,” Favale said in a Crunch news release. “I am so excited to be joining a premier organization like the Crunch and to have the opportunity to connect with such a passionate fan base. I’ve seen firsthand how this staff, led by Howard Dolgon, Vance Lederman and Jim Sarosy, has formed a special bond within the community and I’m eager to be a part of this group.”

As the voice of the Crunch, Favale will broadcast play-by-play for all Crunch games on the team’s official radio station, ESPN Radio Syracuse, along with hosting “The Shootout Show” live at the War Memorial Arena following home games. He will also host the one-hour “Crunch Weekly” show at Tully’s Good Times with special guests on select Thursday nights throughout the season. In addition to his broadcast responsibilities, Favale will serve as the team’s official statistician and prepare all game notes while selling ticket packages, single-game tickets, and booking groups, the release stated.

Favale replaces Dan D’Uva who recently departed after five years as the voice of the Crunch to become the radio broadcaster for the Vegas Golden Nights, an NHL expansion franchise that begins play this season.

D’Uva tweeted his approval of his replacement:

Prior to his time in Elmira, Favale called games for the Mississippi RiverKings of the SPHL as that team’s director of broadcasting and media relations from 2014 to 2016. Hailing from Allendale, New Jersey, Favale graduated from Syracuse University in 2014.
