Syracuse football to open 2017 season on Sept. 2 against Central Connecticut State

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse University football team will open the 2017 season on Sept. 2 against Central Connecticut State (CCSU).

CCSU is a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC) and finished 2-9 in 2016 under head coach Pete Rossomando, Syracuse said in a news release issued Thursday afternoon.

The game will mark the first gridiron meeting between the Orange and Blue Devils, and represents Syracuse’s second-ever matchup with a current NEC member.

In 2013, the Orange defeated Wagner, 54-0.

Thursday’s announcement also means Syracuse’s non-conference schedule for 2017 is complete.

In addition to the Blue Devils, Syracuse hosts the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders on Sept. 9 and the Central Michigan Chippewas on Sept. 16 in nonconference play in the Carrier Dome. They also visit the LSU Tigers in a non-conference road game on Sept. 23.

In Atlantic Coast Conference play, Syracuse is scheduled to host Boston College, Clemson, Pittsburgh, and Wake Forest. The Orange will face Florida State, Louisville, Miami, and N.C. State on the road.

Syracuse expects the release of dates for the conference portion of next year’s schedule in late January or early February.
